Mumbai, October 4: Veteran actor Govinda was discharged from the hospital on Friday after being injured in an accidental firing of his service revolver. The actor, who is a member of the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, underwent surgery at a private hospital on Tuesday, and his health has since improved.
Govinda was seen leaving the hospital in a wheelchair, accompanied by his family members. His left leg was in a plaster cast. Along with his wife Sunita Ahuja and daughter Tina Ahuja, the actor greeted the media and his fans with folded hands. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I thank the media, officials, and my fans who love me so much. I am fully recovering today, thanks to their good wishes.”
Earlier, Sunita Ahuja had informed reporters that Govinda had been advised to rest for at least six weeks. She said, “He is being discharged today. I will bring him home, but he will face difficulty standing for some time… He is fine, and in a few days, he will start dancing again. Everyone has prayed for him, and we are blessed by Mata Rani.”
Sunita added, “Doctors have instructed him to rest at home for six weeks. We will limit his interaction with people to avoid any infection. He needs proper rest.”
Govinda was injured last Tuesday when his service revolver accidentally fired as he was about to leave for the airport. Local police and Mumbai’s crime branch have begun an investigation into the incident.
Police reported that no formal complaint has been filed in this matter so far. Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who treated the actor, mentioned that the bullet hit just below his left knee, requiring 8-10 stitches.
