Kolkata, West Bengal (India), July 21, 2025: The 10th edition of the Durgapur International Film Festival (DIFF) concluded with grandeur and universal recognition. The event spanned from the 2nd to the 6th of July, at the timeless Nandan Cinema Hall in Kolkata, with participants from over 20 countries, submitting more than 300 films. The Durgapur International Film Festival closed with an award ceremony on 7th July, at Sujata Devi Smriti Sadan.
At the heart of DIFF is the vision of filmmaker and Festival Director Debolina Modak Sadhu, who, alongside Festival Chairman Kajari Modak, founded the festival in 2016 to spotlight stories that often go unheard in mainstream media. From its humble beginnings in Durgapur, the festival has evolved into an internationally recognized celebration of cinema that bridges regional, national, and global storytelling.
The Durgapur International Film Festival of 2025 honoured legendary actress Sabitri Chatterjee with the Lifetime Achievement Award, a moving tribute to her contributions to Indian cinema. Celebrated personalities like Rituparna Sengupta, Jaya Seal, and acclaimed international filmmakers graced the red carpet, adding authenticity to a festival that remains firmly rooted in artistic integrity and inclusivity.
Known for its unique blend of culture, talent, and diversity, DIFF presented over 80 awards this year, judged by a distinguished panel of national and international jury members. Categories spanned Short Films, Feature Films, Documentaries, Animation, Music Videos, and even Mobile Films, reflecting the festival’s commitment to embracing every form of storytelling.
The jury panel featured esteemed personalities such as:
Ashoke Viswanathan – Renowned Indian filmmaker, academician, and national awardee with deep expertise in both narrative and parallel cinema.
Sabyasachi Biswas – An internationally acclaimed writer, drama director, and cinematographer with work experience abroad.
Megh Banerjee – Veteran contributor to the music department, with exceptional command in film composition.
Alongside them, the festival also welcomed many distinguished national and international experts from the cinematic world.
The festival was supported by Tiyasha Movies and Prabha Blessing Foundation, who actively contribute to art, culture, and social work. They are known for encouraging emerging filmmakers and talents across the spectrum.
Submissions for the 11th Durgapur International Film Festival will open from August 2025.
